Aanvullende informatie/inhoud	In the mid-18th century, a new style began to develop in Hungarian instrumental dance music, and by the early 1800s a characteristic formal and melodic language had been established, which was to become the basis für future national compositions. Its popularity was greatly increased by Gypsy bands under the leadership of famous virtuoso violinists, who at the same time also inspired numerous instrumental adaptations and original works for piano and guitar. These pieces usually bear titles such as 'Magyar Dance', 'Ungarisch', or 'Hongroise'. In music history, they are generally grouped under the heading 'Verbunkos' music, i.e. 'recruiting dance in Hungarian style'. In the first half of the 19th century, guitar music gained popularity in Hungary, too, and the music of Gypsy violinists was echoed in guitar transcriptions. Guitar composers, on the other hand, composed original works in Hungarian style themselves. Besides a limited number of printed scores, these pieces can be found first and foremost in manuscript versions. This album has been compiled from three manuscript collections and printed series. Hence, this is the first modern edition of the majority of the material, while there also appear new variants of some already known pieces. In this album you can find the compositions of the most popular violinist of the time, Janos Bihari (1764-1827), and the works of two best-known guitar transcribers, Ivan Padovec (1800-1873) and Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856).
