Aanvullende informatie/inhoud	Für mich ist die Zeit gekommen, jemanden zu ehren, der mich seit 1947, seit über 65 Jahren, treu begleitet hat und Zeuge meiner Freuden und Leiden beim Komponieren meiner Opera 8 bis 111 war. Heute noch teilen wir die Leidenschaft für Jazzmusik und unsere wunderbare Komplizenschaft bleibt erhalten auf dem CD-Album The Last Call...?*, das ich in meinem 93. Lebensjahr aufgenommen habe. Dieser Jemand ist mein über hundert Jahre alter Flügel: Blüthner Nr. 89293, Modell 190, gebaut 1910 in Leipzig (Deutschland). Ihm ist dieses Opus 111 gwidmet, das mein allerletztes Klavierwerk sein wird. Den Blüthner-Variationen steht ein Thema zugrunde, das ich mir während der Aufnahme des oben genannten Albums erdacht hatte. Ich nannte es Blues in Three, weil es in traditioneller harmonischer Folge eines 12-taktigen Blues ist, jedoch im 3/4 Takt. Aus der Einfachheit des sich zweimal wiederholenden Themas sind 8 Variationen entstanden, jede davon mit unterschiedlichen pianistischen Anforderungen. Ich hoffe, die zukünftigen Interpreten werden sich von der unumgänglichen jazzy Färbung dieses Werkes angesprochen fühlen. Julien-François Zbinden, Lausanne – Valombré, 23 juillet 2012 * The Last Call...?, Album piano solo, TCB The Montreux Jazz Label No. 43102 The time had come to pay homage to someone who has been a faithful companion to me for 65 years and has witnessed of the joy and pain I have endured during the writing of all of my opuses, from 8 to 111. Today he still shares my fervor for jazz music and our wonderful complicity has been preserved on my piano solo album, The Last Call...?* which I recorded at the age of 93. This 'someone' is my instrument, an old grand piano over 100 years old: Blüthner No. 89293, model 190, constructed in 1910 in Leipzig, Germany, and to which I dedicate this Opus 111, the very last of my series of works for piano. The Blüthner-Variationen were composed starting with a theme I had imagined during recording sessions which were done in my home. I named it Blues in Three, since it was related to the traditional harmonic chord progressions of the 12 bar blues, but in 3/4 time. The simple theme, repeated twice, generates 8 variations, each one requiring different pianistic means. It is my hope that future performers will like the undeniably jazzy orientation of this work. Aujourd'hui encore, il partage ma ferveur pour la musique de jazz et notre belle complicité est sauvegardée dans l'album The Last Call...?* enregistré en ma 93e année. Ce quelqu'un est mon instrument, un piano à queue plus que centenaire: Blüthner No. 89293 Modèle 190, construit en 1910 à Leipzig, auquel je dédie cet opus 111 et qui met fin à la série de mes oeuvres destinées au piano. Les Blüthner-Variationen ont été composées à partir d'un thème que j'ai imaginé au cours de l'enregistrement à mon domicile de l'album cité plus haut. Je l'ai intitulé Blues In Three, s'agissant de la suite harmonique traditionnelle du blues de 12 mesures, mais interprété à trois temps. La simplicité du thème, répété deux fois, a déterminé 8 variations recourant chacune à des moyens pianistiques différenciés. J'espère que les futurs interprètes seront sensibles à l'inévitable couleur jazzy de cette oeuvre.
